Poetic Visions: Words and Images, at El Museo del Barrio

A performance with a selection of poets and photographers featured in Poetic Visions: Words and Images. Work from Marisol Diaz, María Teresa ‘Mariposa’ Fernandez, Jose Angel Figueroa, Angel Franco, George Málave, and Myrna Nieves will be presented and performed in conjunction with one another to tell stories about our common experiences. ABOUT POETIC VISIONS: WORDS AND IMAGES The collective works in ‘Poetic Visions: Words and Images’ emerged as a creative impulse to explore and discover how poets and photographers play and experiment with words, imagery and metaphor as independent creative artists, scholars and cultural visionaries. All the contributors were encouraged to share a selection of literary and visual material that has stood their test of time in the hope that it would provoke and stimulate the reader to see, think, and feel through another’s mind and heart. What is common among these artists is a strong commitment to personal freedom, social justice, an appreciation for life in all its manifestations. The works within are filled with poetic acuity, breathing new forms that shed light in the diverse ways that these artist strive to capture such illusive qualities as the transcending nature of emotions, memories, and show how time and space has a transformative effect on how we connect to our cultural history from post-World War II to our evolution as present day 21st century being. These artists have captured indelible, fleeting and rare moments with a clarity, depth and a purity of vision that make them a source of inspiration, extremely precious and rare.
