George Washinton Dinner, July 8, 2018

George Washington at the Morris-Jumel Mansion for a historically-inspired multi-course dinner, featuring 18th Century dishes. Besides being my birthday, the event also commemorates George Washington’s cabinet dinner held at what was then known as Mt. Morris, on July 10th, 1790. That night's dinner was attended by President George Washington and his wife Martha, Thomas Jefferson, Eliza and Alexander Hamilton, Vice President John Adams, and other prominent cabinet members. Tonight, I dinned with Wayne Benjamin, Andrea Arroyo, Felipe Galindo, Elizabeth Lorris Ritter, Yuien Chin, Don Rice, Martin Collins, Joanna Castro, and of course, George Washington.... The house, the oldest in Manhattan, was built in 1765 and served as Washington’s headquarters in the fall of 1776. It is now owned by the city, and on July 10, it will bring that cabinet dinner to life with a menu that includes Martha Washington’s lettuce and plum tarts, asparagus ragoo, dressed fish rémoulade, sausages, great cake and cider.
