City as Living Laboratory - Community Workshop
Mary Miss and City as Living Laboratory continues its BROADWAY 1000 Steps project with this Community WORKSHOP, being organized in partnership with the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. The WORKSHOP focused on the neighborhood in Harlem around 125th Street/Broadway and the sustainability efforts that have been identified as the most urgent by the community. The Long term objective for the workshop is to further develop these initiatives with the community into a project proposal that will be submitted for funding and implementation to possible gran giving institutions. This workshop is a first step within a larger process that has the potential to result in long term active engagement by the community to promote a sustainable urban environment.
Mary Miss and City as Living Laboratory's mission is to provide a platform for artists, working in collaboration with scientists, urban planners, policy makers, and the public, to envision and create more environmentally aware and responsible cities.
Mary Miss and City as Living Laboratory's goals are to foster artist-led collaborations that seed project sites, with installations, programs, interactive activities and events, setting examples that can extend to other sites and cities over time. With input from an array of experts, municipal agencies, community partners, students, and the public, these activities are conceived to nurture partnerships among disciplines, communities, institutions and neighborhoods as they work together toward shared environmental and sustainability goals.
